Gangsta’s Zone is the first official installment of the Dammit Boy Mixtape Series, presented by Compton Cisco and released through Dammit Boy Productions in 2006. The 21-track project represents an important chapter in the company’s early history, bringing together original DBP recordings and contributions from established West Coast hip-hop artists.
Produced during the independent mixtape era, Gangsta’s Zone showcases the creative foundation of Dammit Boy Productions and the relationships that helped establish its presence in Southern California’s underground hip-hop community.
Tre Dizzle handled the recording, mixing, and arrangement of Gangsta’s Zone, overseeing the assembly of the 21-track mixtape.
Fourteen tracks were recorded by Tre Dizzle, while six additional recordings were supplied by West Coast artist OG Daddy V. One recording originated from earlier sessions associated with Grim Reality Entertainment.
Tre Dizzle’s mixing responsibilities excluded the six recordings supplied by Daddy V.
The project features appearances from Compton Cisco, Tre Dizzle, FЯK$, Insane Poetry, Daddy V, RBX, WC, Teiko, and other artists connected to the early DBP movement.
Among the project’s original recordings is “Up In These Streets,” featuring Compton Cisco, Teiko, and OG Daddy V.
The song was recorded at Dammit Boy Productions’ studio in Moreno Valley, California. Daddy V personally visited the studio to record his contribution, making the song an original DBP studio collaboration rather than one of the externally supplied recordings.
Another significant recording is “Heartless” by Insane Poetry.
The version appearing on Gangsta’s Zone is the original recording, created during a hotel recording session. Tre Dizzle constructed the backing track by looping a sample from Royce da 5’9″‘s “Regardless.”
Jason “JP” Pearl subsequently recreated the instrumental for versions associated with Grim Reality Entertainment.
The original sample-based version was preserved on Gangsta’s Zone as a DBP mixtape exclusive.
OG Daddy V played an important role in the development of Gangsta’s Zone, supplying six recordings for the project.
These contributions included material featuring established West Coast artists such as RBX and WC.
Daddy V’s involvement extended beyond supplying recordings. His participation in original DBP studio sessions, including “Up In These Streets,” reflects the working relationship between Daddy V and the Dammit Boy Productions team during the company’s early years.
Released during the MySpace era, Gangsta’s Zone helped establish the identity of the Dammit Boy Mixtape Series.
The project combined independently recorded DBP material with contributions from respected West Coast artists, creating a platform for the company’s developing roster and collaborative network.
As the first volume in the series, Gangsta’s Zone remains an important part of the Dammit Boy Productions catalog and the company’s independent hip-hop history.
