The first official Dammit Boy Productions release after relocating from California to Houston, Texas. Hosted by J.R. (Jah’s Reflection), “Quality Over Quantity” marked the beginning of a new era for DBP.
Quality Over Quantity is the fourth installment in the Dammit Boy Mixtape Series, released in 2012 by Dammit Boy Productions. Presented by J.R., now known professionally as Jah’s Reflection, the 24-track project represents an important chapter in the label’s Houston recording history.
The project originated after Dammit Boy Productions founder Tre Dizzle met J.R. in Houston, Texas, and began recording with him. As their working relationship developed, Tre Dizzle approached J.R. about continuing the established Dammit Boy Mixtape Series. J.R. agreed, and Quality Over Quantity became Volume 4.
Recording sessions took place at Tre Dizzle’s home studio and Underground Nation Studios (UN Studios) in Houston. The project reflects the independent recording environment that connected Dammit Boy Productions with the growing Houston underground music community.
The mixtape features collaborations with Tre Dizzle, FЯK$, Big Ro the Street Soldier, Yung Slay, Yung LV, Queen T, and other artists. Across its 24 tracks, the project showcases J.R.’s musical identity through solo performances and collaborations.
Songs include “Get Turned Up,” featuring Tre Dizzle; “Cross My Heart,” featuring Tre Dizzle and FЯK$; and “Locked Up,” featuring Big Ro. “Get Turned Up” also has an associated official music video documenting the collaboration between Jah’s Reflection and Tre Dizzle.
The original physical release artwork identifies the project as Dammit Boy Productions Volume 4 and advertises the preceding three installments: Compton Cisco’s Gangsta’s Zone, Tre Dizzle’s From Under Tha Underground, and FЯK$’s There Goes Tha Neighborhood.
The surviving physical artwork bears a 2012 Dammit Boy Productions copyright notice, supporting the release year confirmed by label founder Tre Dizzle.
Today, Quality Over Quantity remains part of the historical Dammit Boy Productions catalog, documenting the collaboration between J.R. and Tre Dizzle and the continuation of the label’s independent mixtape series.
