This DBTV archive video captures Boleggz performing live at Roc-D-Mic Fridays at Club Yakum in Houston, Texas, on January 2, 2015. The footage preserves Boleggz’s appearance during the Club Yakum chapter of the recurring Houston independent hip-hop showcase.
Boleggz performs a three-song set featuring “You Can Get It,” “Runnin Off at the Mouth,” and “Retarded.” Running just over twelve minutes, the performance documents Boleggz on the Roc-D-Mic stage and preserves material connected to multiple releases in his catalog.
Hosted by Wickett Crickett, Roc-D-Mic provided independent artists with a recurring platform to perform live in Houston. Dammit Boy Productions originally entered the Roc-D-Mic story as invited guests of Wickett Crickett before becoming increasingly involved during the Club Yakum period.
Tre Dizzle participated in Roc-D-Mic both as an artist and behind the scenes, including working the events as a DJ. The surviving DBTV recordings from Club Yakum preserve performances by numerous artists who appeared on the Roc-D-Mic stage during this period.
Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Boleggz became part of the broader Dammit Boy Productions story, connecting his Louisiana roots and Southern hip-hop catalog with DBP’s Houston-based operations and archive.
This January 2, 2015 performance predates the September 9, 2015 release of Dha Beggining. Two songs performed during the set, “Runnin Off at the Mouth” and “Retarded,” are connected in the DBP archive to Dha Beggining. The opening song, “You Can Get It,” is connected to I Am U.
The footage therefore captures Boleggz performing material associated with different points in his recorded catalog while participating in Houston’s independent live-performance circuit. Its January 2015 date also provides an archival record of “Runnin Off at the Mouth” and “Retarded” being performed months before the release of Dha Beggining.
Preserved through the DBTV archive, this performance documents the intersection of Boleggz, Wickett Crickett’s Roc-D-Mic platform, Club Yakum, and Dammit Boy Productions during an active period in Houston’s independent hip-hop scene.
Together with the other surviving Roc-D-Mic Fridays recordings, the footage forms part of a larger historical record documenting the artists, songs, venues, performances, and relationships connected to Dammit Boy Productions and Houston independent hip-hop during the mid-2010s.
