Release Full Description

I Am U

I Am U is a 2019 Southern hip-hop album by Boleggz, presented by #TeamBoleggzent and Dammit Boy Productions. The ten-track release brings together artists from the Southern independent hip-hop community, combining street-oriented storytelling, personal expression, and collaborations.

The Meaning Behind I Am U

The album’s title was inspired by the late Houston hip-hop personality Wickett Crickettt, whose encouragement and message of unity became a familiar part of the artists’ pre-performance gatherings.

Before performances, Wickett would join the artists in prayer. Following those prayers, he would share a message that became familiar to the performers:

“I am U, U are me, Together we are one.”

The saying emphasized unity, mutual respect, and the shared bond between artists.

Boleggz adopted those words as the inspiration for the album’s title, preserving a meaningful part of the artists’ experiences together.

Recording at Dammit Boy Studios

Seven of the album’s ten tracks were recorded at Dammit Boy Studios under the direction of Tre Dizzle, founder and longtime lead recording engineer of Dammit Boy Productions.

Tre Dizzle handled recording, mixing, arrangement, and audio engineering for those seven tracks.

The Dammit Boy Studios recordings include That Part, Let’s Go to the Club, Fuck Around, Retarded (Remix), Poppem, Choppaz & Bagz, and My Impala.

Three additional recordings—Hustle (Remix), Trouble Man, and U Can Get It—originated outside Dammit Boy Studios.

Collaborations and Featured Artists

I Am U features contributions from K-Shyne, D Lane, Looney, Lil Kano, Bez Da Belief, Jus Kno Mac, K-Rino, Tinkabell, and Queen Lady Bishop.

Among the collaborations is Trouble Man, featuring Houston hip-hop veteran K-Rino and DBP-associated artist Jus Kno Mac.

The project also includes Retarded (Remix) featuring Looney and Lil Kano, and Hustle (Remix) featuring Bez Da Belief and Jus Kno Mac.

These collaborations reflect Boleggz’s connections throughout the Southern independent hip-hop community.

The Album’s Place in DBP History

Released in March 2019, I Am U represents another chapter in the recording relationship between Boleggz and Dammit Boy Productions.

Beyond its musical collaborations, the album preserves the influence of Wickett Crickett and the sense of unity he encouraged among the artists.

The title serves as a reminder of a tradition that extended beyond individual performances and recording sessions.
