Sylk-E. Fyne

Sylk-E. Fyne is a West Coast hip-hop artist from South Central Los Angeles whose career reaches back to the Ruthless Records era of the 1990s. Before establishing herself as a solo artist, Sylk was associated with G.B.M. (Gangsta Bitch Mentality), a female rap group connected with Eazy-E and Ruthless Records. Her early career placed her within a significant period of Los Angeles hip-hop history and alongside artists who helped shape the sound and culture of West Coast rap.

In 1998, Sylk-E. Fyne released her debut album, Raw Sylk, through RCA Records. Produced by Gerald “Big Yam” Baillergeau and Victor “Vino” Merritt, the album included “Keep It Real” featuring Too $hort and the breakout single “Romeo and Juliet” featuring Chill. “Romeo and Juliet” became a major national success, reaching No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 5 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and No. 1 on the rap chart. The single was certified Gold in 1998.

Sylk continued her recording career with the 2000 album Tha Cum Up. Her career also includes recordings and appearances connected to a broad circle of West Coast and national hip-hop artists. Her catalog and history connect multiple generations of Los Angeles rap, from the Ruthless Records era through her later independent work.

Today, Sylk-E. Fyne remains connected to hip-hop and is actively documenting and expanding her story. This Dammit Boy Productions artist profile is being developed with Sylk-E.
